African Traditional Foods Sunday (Food for Thoughts Sunday)
African Traditional Foods Sunday (Food for Thoughts Sunday) is more than just a weekly community gathering—it is a movement built on love, unity, respect, and community spirit. Founded by African Youth Collective Inc. (AYC) under the B-MAD initiative, the program was created to bring young people, families, and the wider community together while promoting peace, wellbeing, positive mental health, and strong community connections across Australia.
At African Traditional Foods Sunday, it is not only about sharing delicious traditional African meals—it is about building relationships, creating a sense of belonging, supporting mental wellbeing, raising awareness around Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), and empowering young people to grow into confident leaders within their communities.
Prepared with care by our dedicated volunteers, including our sister Nashra and supported by chef Mohammed Ahmed, the program celebrates the rich diversity of African cultures through a variety of traditional foods from across the continent. Every shared meal creates opportunities for meaningful conversations, cultural exchange, mutual support, and lasting friendships.
Through connection, conversation, and community engagement, African Traditional Foods Sunday provides a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported. The program encourages cultural understanding, community participation, and positive social interaction, helping to strengthen community cohesion and foster lasting relationships among people from diverse backgrounds.
Together, we are building stronger minds, stronger communities, and stronger futures—one meal, one conversation, and one connection at a time.
