More Than a BBQ — A Community Movement

B-MAD COMMUNITY BBQ

B-MAD Sunshine Community BBQ is more than just a weekly BBQ—it is a community movement built on love, unity, respect, and belonging. Founded by African Youth Collective Inc. (AYC), the Sunshine BBQ provides a safe and welcoming space where young people, families, and community members can come together, build meaningful relationships, and strengthen community connections.

Held every Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunshine Park, Sunshine VIC 3021, the program is designed to engage local young people in positive activities while promoting peace, wellbeing, and healthy lifestyles.

At B-MAD Sunshine Community BBQ, it is not just about sharing a meal—it is about creating opportunities for connection, mentorship, and personal growth. Through conversation, friendship, and community engagement, we support young people to build confidence, develop leadership skills, make positive life choices, and become active contributors within their communities.

As part of the B-MAD Framework—Beyond Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs, the program also promotes mental health awareness, positive education around Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), social inclusion, and community wellbeing. We believe that when young people have a place where they feel safe, respected, and valued, they are more likely to thrive and build brighter futures.

Every Wednesday and Thursday, B-MAD Sunshine Community BBQ brings people together through good food, positive conversations, cultural connection, and community spirit.

Our Goal

Our goal is to create a space where every young person feels connected, valued, supported, and empowered within their community. Through shared meals, meaningful conversations, mentorship, and positive community engagement, we strive to inspire hope, strengthen relationships, and provide pathways for young people to reach their full potential.

Held every Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunshine Park, Sunshine VIC 3021, the B-MAD Sunshine Community BBQ is committed to building stronger minds, stronger communities, and stronger futures—one conversation, one meal, and one connection at a time.

Community First

The B-MAD Sunshine Community BBQ is proudly community-driven. We are committed to creating a strong sense of family, connection, and belonging for everyone involved—young people, families, volunteers, supporters, and members of the wider Sunshine community.

Held every Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunshine Park, Sunshine VIC 3021, our BBQ provides a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where young people can connect, build friendships, and access positive support within their community.

Our programs encourage:

  • Respect for one another.
  • Community connection and teamwork.
  • Cultural diversity, inclusion, and social cohesion.
  • Positive youth engagement and participation.

We believe that when young people feel supported, connected, and valued, they develop the confidence and resilience to make positive life choices, creating stronger, healthier, and safer communities for future generations.

Through good food, meaningful conversations, mentorship, and safe community engagement, the B-MAD Sunshine Community BBQ creates an environment where everyone feels welcome, respected, included, and empowered. Our goal is to strengthen relationships, build trust, celebrate cultural diversity, and provide young people with a positive space where they can thrive.
