Welcome to African Youth Collective

Supporting Healing, Connection, and Second Chances

At the African Youth Collective (AYC), the Hospitals pillar focuses on supporting the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of young people.

Through our B-MAD (Beyond Mental Health, Alcohol & Drugs) framework, we provide safe, culturally responsive spaces where young people can openly engage with issues affecting their health and wellbeing. We understand that challenges such as mental health struggles, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), trauma, and exposure to violence can significantly impact a young person’s life.

Our programs are designed to educate, support, and empower young people to make healthier choices, build resilience, and seek help when needed.

This pillar represents a place of care, healing, and growth—ensuring that no young person feels alone in their journey.

What We Offer

  • Mental health and wellbeing sessions
  • Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) education
  • Youth-led support and safe spaces
  • Community BBQs promoting connection and openness
  • Youth Justice Awareness & life education programs

Our Approach

AYC delivers culturally safe and community-driven support that focuses on mental health, emotional wellbeing, and positive life pathways. Through consistent engagement, we aim to reduce isolation, restore hope, and strengthen the connection between individuals and their communities.

We work closely with young people and adults to ensure they feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout their journey.

WHAT WE DO

Prison VisitationWe provide regular visits to individuals in custody, offering encouragement, mentorship, and a positive connection to the outside community.
Emotional & Mental Health SupportOur team creates safe spaces for individuals to talk, reflect, and receive guidance to support their mental and emotional wellbeing.
Mentorship & GuidanceWe connect individuals with mentors who provide support, life advice, and encouragement to help them make positive choices.
Reintegration SupportWe assist individuals transitioning back into the community by helping them access:

  • Education and training opportunities
  • Employment pathways
  • Housing and community services
  • Ongoing mentorship and support networks

Family & Community ConnectionWe help rebuild relationships between individuals and their families, strengthening the support systems needed for long-term success.

Why This Matters

Without the right support, many individuals face challenges when returning to the community, increasing the risk of reoffending. At AYC, we believe that with the right guidance, support, and opportunities, every individual has the ability to change their future.

Our program works to break cycles of incarceration by:

  • Promoting positive decision-making
  • Supporting mental health and wellbeing
  • Creating pathways into education and employment
  • Strengthening community ties

Our Vision

We envision a future where young people and individuals impacted by the justice system are supported, empowered, and given real opportunities to succeed.

Through compassion, leadership, and community connection, AYC is committed to creating lasting change — one life at a time.

Get Involved

Whether you are looking for support, want to partner with us, or are interested in volunteering, we welcome you to be part of this important work.
