At the African Youth Collective (AYC), education is at the heart of everything we do. Through our Be-MAD (Beyond Mental Health, Alcohol & Drugs) initiative, we work with schools and young people to build knowledge, confidence, and positive life pathways.
Our school-based programs are designed to support students both inside and outside the classroom — helping them succeed academically while also strengthening their mental health, decision-making, and leadership skills.
Be-MAD stands for Beyond Mental Health, Alcohol & Drugs.
It is a youth-focused approach that equips young people with the tools, education, and support needed to make informed choices and live healthy, balanced lives.
Rather than focusing only on problems, Be-MAD focuses on prevention, empowerment, and growth.
AYC delivers culturally inclusive and engaging programs that connect with young people from diverse backgrounds. We create safe spaces where students feel comfortable to learn, express themselves, and grow.
Our programs are:
Homework & Academic Support
We provide after-school homework clubs and tutoring to help students stay on track with their studies and build confidence in their learning.
Mental Health & Wellbeing Education
Workshops and sessions that help students understand mental health, manage stress, and develop healthy coping strategies.
Alcohol & Drug Awareness (AOD)
Educational programs that raise awareness about the impacts of alcohol and drugs, while empowering young people to make informed decisions.
Leadership Development
We support students to become leaders in their schools and communities through mentorship, public speaking, and teamwork opportunities.
Real Talk Sessions
Open and honest conversations where young people can discuss issues such as identity, peer pressure, culture, and life challenges in a safe environment.
School & Community Engagement
We partner with schools, teachers, and community organisations to deliver programs that support student wellbeing and success.
Many young people face challenges that impact both their education and wellbeing. Without the right support, these challenges can lead to disengagement from school, mental health struggles, or involvement in harmful behaviours.
AYC’s Be-MAD program works to:
We believe every young person deserves access to education, support, and opportunity.
Our vision is to create a generation of young people who are:
We welcome schools, students, families, and community partners to work with us in delivering meaningful change.
Together, we can support young people to go beyond limitations and build a brighter future through education and wellbeing.

Our sessions provide a safe and focused environment where students receive support from mentors and peers to stay on track with their education.
