Welcome to African Youth Collective

🏥 Hospitals – Health, Wellbeing & Support

At the African Youth Collective (AYC), the Hospitals pillar focuses on supporting the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of young people.

Through our B-MAD (Beyond Mental Health, Alcohol & Drugs) framework, we provide safe, culturally responsive spaces where young people can openly engage with issues affecting their health and wellbeing. We understand that challenges such as mental health struggles, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), trauma, and exposure to violence can significantly impact a young person’s life.

Our programs are designed to educate, support, and empower young people to make healthier choices, build resilience, and seek help when needed.

This pillar represents a place of care, healing, and growth—ensuring that no young person feels alone in their journey.

What We Offer

  • Mental health and wellbeing sessions
  • Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) education
  • Youth-led support and safe spaces
  • Community BBQs promoting connection and openness
  • Youth Justice Awareness & life education programs

Our Impact

  • Improved mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Increased awareness of AOD and its effects
  • Stronger coping and decision-making skills
  • Reduced involvement in harmful behaviours
  • Greater connection to support systems and community

Herbal remedies for AOD & Mental Health

  • Use of natural herbal teas such as chamomile and peppermint to reduce stress, support relaxation, and improve sleep
  • Use of herbal tonics (e.g. ginger, turmeric blends) to support detoxification and overall body health
  • Daily consumption of plant-based remedies to help regulate mood and emotional balance
  • Incorporation of herbs into routine (morning/evening teas) alongside hydration and healthy eating
  • Combined use of herbal support with community, mentorship, and wellbeing practices to strengthen AOD recovery
